Re: [Salon] Fwd: Hersh's Nord Stream Blasts Report Shows Need for Open Investigation, Kremlin Says

Agree, Dan. It’s very flimsy. Mr Hersh has exactly one source on this story. (He says it’s a source familiar with the operation. Every time he quotes someone describing the operation, he attributes it to “the source.”) He quotes Theodore Postol on how one bit of its technology would work, but there’s no pretense that Polstol knew anything about it.  It could still all be true but you can't slam responsible media for not covering a piece that fails basic journalism.

There is certainly good reason to be critical of the MSM and its
increasingly disturbing tendencies not to depart from the popular narrative.
In this case, though, I can understand why an editor would want independent
confirmation. That's what journalism is supposed to be about. In this case, Sy
is asserting the US. government has committed an international criminal act of unprecedented
proportions, one that could have jeopardized the economies of dozens of countries and the health
and comfort of milliions of people. If I was an editor, I'd want to run the traps. Trust but verify.

Not to mention the reaction of German media!

At this point, I would suggest that the silence of western media is not yet a sad commentary.
No good editor would follow up such a dramatic story without some independent checking.
Sy has deep sources; but others do as well. I'd stay tuned.

This is similar to the reception the MSM gave to Sy's important 2014 coverage of US shenanigans in Syria: https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v36/n08/seymour-m.-hersh/the-red-line-and-the-rat-line.

Jeff Gerth's recent report on the MSM's role in Russiagate is a data-point of increasing relevance and urgency...

So far, mainstream media in the U.S. have not mentioned Hersh's findings at all -- a sad commentary on them.
